Womxn with Moxy: Pearl Isawumi

Tell us about yourself. Who are you to the world?

I'm Pearl Isawumi, mum of Ayo and Temi, wife of Femi and Senior Insights Account Manager at Unite Us. I was born and raised in Nigeria. I enjoy traveling, swimming and bedtime reading/snuggles with my 2 boys.

Was there a moment when you first realized you had moxy?

I first realized I had moxy when I decided to transition from my medical career in Nigeria to fly across the Atlantic to study public health in the frigid cold of Minnesota, and in a country where I had no immediate family relatives. This transition is by far one of the best decisions of my life as it led me to a new career, family and friends turned family.

Share something unsuspecting about you?

I still get chills when I think about the fact that I knew my in-laws (back in Nigeria) years before a mutual friend here in Minnesota introduced me to my husband. My father-in-law was a professor at the University where I attended medical school in Nigeria, and his mum often asked his sister to bring food to the medical students (me and my 2 roommates), who could not travel home for the holidays.

How do you recharge your moxy?

While I don't get to do this as often as I would like, I enjoy the fully-charged feeling after a day at the spa
